After watching Scott Kelby do his Audi R8 shoot, I had been itching to have a go at it. Needed to find a reasonable looking car that was clean and finally this weekend I had the chance to do it. The location was just in the backyard, so it wasn't the most ideal situation but it works. After all Kelby shot his high detail shots in the garage of the R8 owner.

Looking at Kelby's shoot he used a couple of strip lights. I managed to get a couple of slightly cheaper Westcott Apollo Strip Light softboxes from B&H earlier this year during my NYC visit. I teamed these up with my Yongnuo 560IIIs. I just used the diffusion panels that came with the strip lights. I do have the grids but I found the grids were (a) reducing a lot of the output from the speedlights hence I would need to bump up the power and chew up more battery and (b) in some shots the grid reflection was not so pretty so to speak. Camera of choice was the Fuji X Pro 1 with the 35mm f/1.4 lens. The X Pro 1 had recently been upgraded to 3.00 (haven't got around to doing 3.01) and I have to say the focus, with focus assist in the pitch black did quite well.

So ready to shoot... everything was made more exciting due to the freezing cold and deciding to shoot this in pitch black at night (not smart !!!).

For privacy reasons, I have blacked out the number plate, yes I know I should have just removed it.
